Northern Ireland’s Health and Safety Executive (HSENI) is amending first aid at work (FAW) rules covering training to make it more flexible at a time when a fragile economy is making companies look carefully at all areas of expenditure.
The move is aimed at saving businesses time and money without compromising health and safety.
Some courses are being streamlined and reduced in length, with new, one-day courses offered to small, low-risk businesses.
Dr Bryan Monson, the deputy chief executive of HSENI, said: “First aid at work can help to save lives and prevent minor injuries becoming major ones.
“The revised guidance will help employers to get first aid training that suits their business needs and saves them both time and money.
“First aid skills learnt at work are also useful in many other areas of life,” he said.
